Asperger's is a developmental disorder in which
individuals have impaired social awareness and social interaction, often
preferring to be alone rather than interact with others. Many with Asperger's are highly intelligent, apt to be inflexible or adaptive and are
often draw to singular activities and professions such as art, the sciences
and mathematics. They are often highly accomplished, but socially
uncomfortable. Individuals with Asperger's may fail to read social cues and
experience exclusion in peer groups. On a one-to-one basis they are often
delightful and entertaining companions but tend to retreat in group
situations. They are exquisitely sensitive and may also suffer from anxiety,
depression and sleep issues.Neurofeedback
training can help to relax the individual, decrease depression and anxiety
and improve the reading of faces and facial cues. As with other individuals
care assessment must be made to determine whether processing or attentional
problems coexist. This assessment is undertaken in a 1-1/2 to 2- hour
interview and may be combined with results of neuropsychiatric testing, IVA,
or QEEG (Quantitative ElectroEncephaloGraphy). QEEG is a method using
universal sites for EEG to look at abnormal brain wave patterns.
